The Next Big Thing
My poet friend Wioletta Grzegorzewska has introduced me to The Next Big Thing where I write about one of my books - my poetry collection - "Białe krzesła" (White Chairs).
- Where did the idea come from for the book?
The idea for each poem is different. The title poem was inspired by my visit to Jerusalem and the image of white plastic chairs crowded at the Wailing Wall. People sit on them and pray, but also climb them to take photos and to see each other above the barrier dividing men's section from women's area. I was moved by the contrast between common, down-to-earth reality and spiritual world. I think this contrast (and coexistence of opposities) is important also for other poems in my book.
- What genre does your book fall under?
Poetry
- What actors would you choose to play the part of your characters in a movie rendition?
Non-professional actors from Cairo, Jerusalem, Warsaw and few other places, where my characters live.
- What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
"These poems are fast as life and as thinking about life; they don't stop at images but they look through images at something more important; they want to understand ordinary things: that is, to discover the extraordinariness".
Piotr Matywiecki
- How long did it take you to write the first draft of the manuscript?
The poems collected in this book were written between 2007 and 2011.
- Who or what inspired you to write this book?
My life, people and my relationships with them, travels and more...
- What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?
Poems which are a little bit like short stories: about young doctor traveling with old dying man, about the hunchback from Ancient Egypt or the girl hiding her identity.
Also love poems.
- Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
It was published by WBPiCAK in fall 2012:
